Hockey Leaders Award

Hockey Leaders AwardSixteen girls from SWGS and one Year 12 from BWS completed a two hour intensive course in Hockey Leadership ran by the Salisbury School Sport Partnership.

The leaders were given the opportunity to develop their own leadership style and were given advice and tips on how to set up drills, warm up a group and officiate a game in preparation for assisting with The Year 7 Hockey Day and The Yr 5/6 Hockey Festivals in November.

All of the leaders will also be given the opportunity to assist with coaching in the primary schools throughout the year.

Year 7 Hockey Coaching Day

Unlike last year persistent rain hammered down on Wilton Road Astro for the Year 7 coaching day. Over 60 girls from the Salisbury School Sport Partnership were selected for a morning of coaching followed by a tournament in the afternoon.

The girls participated in drills designed to both improve their skill level and game play in the morning and then they competed in a tournament in the afternoon. All of the schools mixed together which enabled everyone to make new friends and pick up exchange tips with other players.

All of the girls worked really hard throughout the day showing commitment and enthusiasm in the morning and displaying a competitive side in the afternoon. Jo Salen (SWGS) and I spotted some definite talent for the future.

Well done to all of those involved and thank you to Miss Salen for helping to coordinate the very successful event.

Leadership Academy

Over 60 students from across Salisbury were selected to attend the first ever Leadership Academy held in September at Salisbury High School.

The students represented SWGS, BWS, St Edmunds, St Josephs, Salisbury High & Trafalgar. They were given the opportunity to take part in practical workshops, were informed of various leadership pathways available to them whilst been given advice and feedback from experienced coaches from the area.

The sixth form students organised a group of Yr 6 Gifted and Talented pupils leading them through various activities. During the event they were also given the opportunity to be part of a leadership council, working closely throughout the year with the two Young Ambassadors for Sport (Jake K & Holly S).

Thank you to all students who attended and worked hard throughout the evening and congratulations to those who were selected to work with Holly & Jake. Good luck with all future leadership opportunities.

Students poposed that our next academy should involve students gaining qualifications and experience in netball and rugby through 'Ready Rugby' and ' Netball Officials'.

Bishops Wordsworth boys help organise Primary competitions

Just before the end of last term, we helped out at the first ever orienteering competition for Yrs 5 and 6, organised by Lucy Cassidy and Sarum Orienteers.

As it was the first competition only 3 primary schools entered, with 12 children each, but there was still a fierce competition between them all, and hopefully next year more teams will enter.

It was a short course with only 5 controls, but it got all the pupils interested in the sport, and they were eager for the second round. With the great weather and organisation the day was a great success, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
