Pupils Complete Officiating
Courses
Pupils from St Joseph's, Wyvern, Salisbury High, St
Edmund's Girls' School and South Wilts Grammar School for Girls' have completed
officiating courses in athletics and cricket. The courses, run by the National
Governing Bodies of Athletics and Cricket were a mix of practical and theory
based sessions and provides the pupils with an officiating award.
50
students attended two courses held at Salisbury Athletics Track and the
Laverstock School Site. Both enabled the students to have hands-on practical
experiencing of officiating areas such as measuring distances, time keeping,
filling in score sheets and umpiring.
The pupils have already had the
opportunity to put their awards to good use, helping out at recent athletics
competitions. Further opportunities are coming up in athletics and kwik cricket
competitions for the partnership.
The Partnership believes it to be
great news that so many children want the chance to complete officiating awards
and support the full range of competitions and festivals that the Partnership
runs.

Year 7 Hockey Coaching
Day
Unlike last year persistent rain hammered down on Wilton
Road Astro for the Year 7 coaching day. Over 60 girls from the Salisbury School
Sport Partnership were selected for a morning of coaching followed by a
tournament in the afternoon.
The girls participated in drills designed
to both improve their skill level and game play in the morning and then they
competed in a tournament in the afternoon. All of the schools mixed together
which enabled everyone to make new friends and pick up exchange tips with other
players. |

All of the girls worked really hard
throughout the day showing commitment and enthusiasm in the morning and
displaying a competitive side in the afternoon. Jo Salen (SWGS) and I spotted
some definite talent for the future. Well done to all of those involved
and thank you to Miss Salen for helping to coordinate the very successful
event. Updated October 2009 - Lucy Cassidy SSCo |

Bishops Wordsworth boys help organise
Primary competitions
Just before the end of last term, we
helped out at the first ever orienteering competition for Yrs 5 and 6,
organised by Lucy Cassidy and Sarum Orienteers.
 As it was the
first competition only 3 primary schools entered, with 12 children each, but
there was still a fierce competition between them all, and hopefully next year
more teams will enter.
It was a short course with only 5 controls, but
it got all the pupils interested in the sport, and they were eager for the
second round. With the great weather and organisation the day was a great
success, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
