Laverstock cluster FUNdamentals festival
On
Friday 16th October 2009 the Laverstock cluster hosted their KS1 FUNdamentals
festival. Over 125 Yr1 and Yr2 pupils attended and took part in the huge
circuit of stations that are based around balance, agility and coordination
skills. The pupils were led and guided by 35 St Edmund's leaders who were
superb at organising and motivating their groups.
It was a hugely
enjoyable, albeit manic two hours and a big thank you to all schools, pupils
and parents involved!

Football Festival A Huge
Success
Over 100 children from across the district scored a huge
victory for sport when they participated in the area's biggest football
festival for primary schools.
Organised by Wiltshire Council and the
Salisbury School Sports Partnership, the festival was held at St Edmund's Girls
School on Monday October 19 and saw 12 teams from 10 schools come together to
compete.
Prior to the festivals some of the schools in the Salisbury
School Sports Partnership also received six weeks of coaching from Salisbury
City Football in the Community.
The event was a huge success for all the
120 young people who took part. The children all put in 100% effort during
their games and the skill levels on display were amazing. Competitive events
such as these festivals are so important in encouraging young people to be
active in the future and they provide them with the skills to do well in all
aspects of their lives.
The event also provided the opportunity for
older students to develop their leadership skills by helping to set up,
organise and run the day. Students from Wyvern College got involved with
the
refereeing and delivered warm up activities
for the school teams.
The final results proved to be a close affair with
St Mark's, Winterslow, Pembroke Park and Gomeldon playing off for the top four
places. It proved to be a really close round with Winterslow becoming proud
winners of the festival with 15 points and St. Mark's in second place with 11
points.
A Fair Play Award was also given to the school that showed great
sportsmanship throughout the afternoon. This award was given to Bemerton St
John's school.
All participants received certificates and an overall
trophy for the winners

Fundamental Skills- Scheme of Work
Launch
The Salisbury SSP team and Community Coaches launched
their new toolkit for KS1 Teachers with a fundamentals morning at Wyndham Park
Infants School in September.
Fourteen primary schools were represented
where the teachers relaxed in the sunshine as they observed a model lesson with
Yr 2's outside. After the lesson, everyone moved into the hall to see how it
transfers to the indoor space with a Yr 1 class. Sue Edwards expertly delivered
both lessons along with Lindsay Broomfield who was instrumental in putting the
scheme together.
Teachers were given the opportunity to ask questions
about the scheme and teaching methods whilst perusing over the equipment bags
that are essential for high quality teaching to take place.
The scheme is a useful addition to teacher resources.
Thanks to all who attended, to our hosts Wyndham Park Infant School and the
children in Yrs 1&2. They were fantastic! For more information about

Orienteering Event
Just before the end of last term, we helped out at the first ever orienteering
competition for Yrs 5 and 6, organised by Lucy Cassidy and Sarum
Orienteers.
As it was the first competition only 3 primary schools
entered, with 12 children each, but there was still a fierce competition
between them all, and hopefully next year more teams will enter.
It was a short
course with only 5 controls, but it got all the pupils interested in the sport,
and they were eager for the second round. With the great weather and
organisation the day was a great success, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed
themselves.

Yrs3/4 QuadKids Athletics
'Quad Kids' Athletics tournament took place on the 30th June
for Years 3 & 4, and was a way to introduce smaller children into
athletics.
With hot weather expected the 19 schools arrived with
sun-block and caps in hand, but were let down by the humid and wet
conditions.
The day consisted
of 3 events; a 'Vortex' throw, a standing jump followed by a 400m 'jog'.
Unfortunately the proposed 100m sprint was not completed because of the rain.
Competition was fierce in all events and there were some fine individual
performances throughout, with Broadchalke Primary running out eventual
winners.
The day was a huge success, and spirits were still high even as
the last rain soaked gazebo littering the field was put down.
Thank you
to everyone for taking part in the first year 3/4 Quadkids athletics
competition for the partnership. We hope that you enjoyed the experience.
